iPhone 11 has a very interesting new surprise revealed just one day before the official presentation made by Apple, and we are talking about a new co-processor that will be integrated into the A13 chip. With the chorus name Rose, R1, this co-processor would replace the current one implemented in iPhone phones, only that it will have an extended functionality for a series of new functions that are being prepared by the Apple company for customers.
Unlike the current M co-processor in iPhone phones, the R1 in iPhone 11 will not only integrate accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, compass, microphones, but will also allow measuring the moment of inertia. Next, this R1 co-processor will also contain support for UWB technology, ultra-wideband, or optical monitoring of movements using the camera, plus support for functions integrated in Bluetooth 5.1, so we are talking about a big upgrade.

The iPhone 11 will have for Bluetooth 5.1 implemented support for Angle of Arrival, AoA, and Angle of Departure, AoD technologies, which allow for much more accurate discovery of Bluetooth trackers. Basically, Apple wants to offer in iPhone 11 support for Apple Tags, a device that can be attached to any objects that we often lose, and thanks to it, but also to iPhone 11, we will be able to find them much easier wherever we lost them/ forgotten.
“Based on evidence from an internal build of iOS 13, the first iteration of the Rose coprocessor, R1 (t2006), is similar to Apple's M-series motion coprocessor. The Rose coprocessor will add support for an inertial measurement unit (IMU), Bluetooth 5.1, ultra-wideband (UWB) and camera features (including motion capture and optical tracking), sensor data to tell not only where the device is, but also to fuse this sensor data together to find lost Apple tags and help people process Occlusion from ARKit.”
iPhone 11 will offer a much more extensive functionality for other trackers that still exist on the market, if Apple will also have special APIs in iOS 13 for them, but everything depends very much on what the Americans want to do. Apart from that, the data that the new co-processor in the iPhone 11 will be able to record could also allow for much better monitoring of the activities we do daily, but we will learn more about this tomorrow evening.
