A new jailbreak permanent for 8 iPhone models will be released in the not too distant future thanks to a new exploit that allows exploitation regardless of the iOS version installed in the phones. In the past, these were known as bootrom exploits, offering tethered or untethered jailbreak for connoisseurs, regardless of which version of iOS was installed on the iPhone, but Apple has started to better secure the products, theoretically.
checkm8 is the name of this exploit that affects all iPhone models that work based on A5 - A11 chips, so it can be jailbroken for anything from iPhone 4S to iPhone X. Of course, many iPad tablet models are also vulnerable in front of this exploit, and as soon as this exploit will be transformed into a jailbreak solution, those from Apple will no longer have any solution to secure the terminals.

It is interesting that the last bootrom exploit was released when the iPhone 4 was still sold by Apple, and this new one covers all models from iPhone 4S to iPhone X, so not all problems had been solved. Hundreds of millions of active iDevices globally are currently vulnerable to this exploit, and Apple can't release an iOS update to make them secure again, no matter how much they'd like to. .

Interestingly, this bootrom exploit would also allow downgrades for the iPhones on which it is installed, and so users could return to old versions, which may work better. Of course, this process will not be as simple as in the past, with Apple complicating things a lot on the downgrade side, but at least we know that iDevices are not as secure as we thought until now, and the jailbreak will return to the present.
