iOS 13.2 will be launched by the Apple company with an amazing feature that, to be honest, I have been waiting for since the moment of its presentation. More precisely, I am talking about the Deep Fusion function, which Apple promised for the iPhone 11 Pro series phones, and which will be offered with iOS 13.2.
Deep Fusion is an extremely advanced function for the iPhone 11 Pro series phone camera, it is designed to take extremely good photos. Below is an explanation of how Deep Fusion will work in iOS 13.2 on iPhone 11 Pro series phones, those from Apple wanting to offer better quality photos than any other phone.
- By the time you press the shutter button, the camera has already taken three frames with a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion in the shot. When you press the shutter, it takes three additional shots, then a longer exposure to capture the details.
- These three regular photos and long exposure photos are merged with what Apple calls "synthetic long" - this is a major difference from Smart HDR.
- Deep Fusion takes the short exposure image with the most detail and merges it with the synthetic long exposure – unlike Smart HDR, Deep Fusion only combines these two frames, nothing more. These two images are also processed for different noise than Smart HDR, in a better way for Deep Fusion.
- Images are put through four stages of pixel-by-pixel detail processing, each tailored to increasingly greater amounts of detail – the sky and walls are in the lowest band, while skin, hair, fabrics, etc. I'm on the highest lane. This generates a series of weights for how to blend the two images – taking detail from one and tone, color and brightness from the other.
- The final image is generated.
In theory, Deep Fusion should transform the camera in iPhone 11 Pro phones into one capable of fighting on an equal footing with those from Huawei or Samsung, all thanks to iOS 13.2. Of course, so far we have only seen marketing from Apple and nothing is 100% clear, and the functionality in the beta version of iOS 13.2 will not provide the final experience, but at least we will be able to get an idea of what is to come.
