Romania can PROHIBIT the sale of telephones without the STS Call 112 Application

Romania could ban mobile phones that are sold without the pre-installed Call 112 application, here is what the PSD proposes in a completely surprising way.

Romania prohibits telephones without calling 112

In Romania the sale of mobile phones that do not have the Apel 112 application pre-installed by the manufacturers could be prohibited, it being created by those from STS to improve geolocation of emergency calls. The Apel 112 application can only be installed in smartphones, that is, the same type of mobile phones that are also compatible with the AML system, but in the absence of investments for the implementation of this technology, the parliamentarians are starting to become stupid, because they don't want to do anything else.

The idea to ban the sale of mobile phones in Romania without the pre-installed Apel 112 application comes from PSD senator Serban Nicolae, who believes that the solution is better than implementing AML directly to the 112 system. Moreover, the senator also proposes that people who call abusive at 112 to be temporarily blocked on the phone number from which they call, or send messages, to 113, 114.

Romania can PROHIBIT the sale of telephones without the STS Call 112 Application

This initiative comes in a very interesting way just a few days after the PSD took the first step to remove the provision from an emergency ordinance that requires the purchase of prepaid cards only with the bulletin. As good ideas are easy to find, now that's also where the idea comes from to oblige phone manufacturers to pre-install the Call 112 application in phones, instead of the government directly implementing support for AML in the system.

"The unique application is the property of STS, but it is distributed free of charge so that it can be installed on all mobile phones to be sold in Romania. According to what STS representatives stated before the senators of the Committee on Defense, Public Order and National Security, this application allows optimized location conditions compared to the current ones, allowing a better and faster location of a caller in distress."

Of course, a term of 12 months is provided for this stupid obligation, although AML would be supported from the start by all phones, it does exactly what the Call 112 application does, and does not oblige the manufacturers to do much. It is difficult for me to understand the rationale behind such proposals since an emergency ordinance has already been adopted that provides for the implementation of AML in the 112 emergency service, and this should happen in the coming months.

Unfortunately, this is how things have been going in Romania for years, with all kinds of confused initiatives, which clash with others, and in all this fog, we lose everything.
