WhatsApp finally launched today a function promised 6 months ago by the American company, it being available from now on for many users of phones with iOS and Android operating systems. More precisely, starting today, many users of the iOS and Android applications have available within WhatsApp a function that allows them to prevent their automatic addition to conversation groups on the platform without their consent.
WhatsApp now offers users the possibility to select that anyone can be added to chat groups, only by contacts, or only by certain contacts in their address book. This new feature will prevent any other people from adding anyone to WhatsApp chat groups, so the world will no longer be bombarded with messages it doesn't want to receive from complete strangers.
WhatsApp LAUNCHES an IMPORTANT function Promised 6 MONTHS ago
WhatsApp promised 6 months ago that it would launch this function for users all over the world, and it did it at first only in India, where it has about 300 million monthly active users. After testing it there for 6 months, it launches it for WhatsApp users all over the world, but with an important change regarding the restrictions that prevent any kind of people from adding different users within the chat groups.
WhatsApp initially had a function that allowed users to completely prevent being added to chat groups, but this has been replaced with one that only restricts certain contacts from the address book. This change somewhat reduces the usefulness of the feature for WhatsApp, but even so, users can prevent unauthorized additions to chat groups by people they have never met.
WhatsApp implemented this feature as part of measures to bring more security to the messaging platform, but it remains to be seen when everyone will be able to enjoy the change.
