WhatsApp announced an unprecedented measure for users around the world, something the American company has never done before, but something it seems it is bound to do eventually. More precisely, those at WhatsApp started blocking certain groups of user conversations, those within the company owned by Facebook initiating this process just a few days ago, without notifying anyone about their plans.
WhatsApp started blocking some groups that had suspicious names, such as those that contained words that suggested that child pornography could be distributed there, for example. The keywords on the basis of which the groups are searched for and banned may differ depending on what WhatsApp is looking for within its platform, but mostly it is about cases of this kind, in which illegal content is distributed.
WhatsApp: UNPRECEDENTED MEASURE TAKEN AGAINST PEOPLE
WhatsApp doesn't just ban groups, it blocks all accounts that were part of that group and sent messages there, the worst part being that no appeal can be made against their decision. The decision that those at WhatsApp have taken is most likely related to a large increase in the number of cases of using chat groups to distribute illegal content, or to discuss the commission of crimes.
Until now, WhatsApp has not been at the center of any scandals regarding the existence of such illegal activities within its platform, while Telegram was even removed from the App Store for this reason. It is still possible that WhatsApp was notified about the fact that it must solve the problems regarding the illegal content on the platform before it was banned, and it is possible that it acted accordingly in time.
WhatsApp will continue to block groups and accounts if they have names that can suggest that crimes are being committed there, and it doesn't matter if the name is written as a joke, or if nothing happens, blocking groups and accounts is done automatically.
