Highway Code: BIG CHANGES for FINES from January 2020

Highway Code fines 2020

Road Code it will change from the beginning of this year after the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, signed a change for the fines applied in the country. More precisely, fines for cyclists are reduced from 870 - 1160 LEI to 580 - 725 LEI, moving from the third class of penalties of the Highway Code to the second class.

The Highway Code is modified based on some amendments made by the USR, who succeeded in making life easier for cyclists who break the law. This means that if you are caught with your phone in your hand on your bike, according to the new fines applied according to the Highway Code, you will pay a fine between 580 - 725 LEI, or half in 15 days.

The Highway Code will have third-class penalties applied for the inadequate equipment of bicycles circulating on the streets of Romania, so nothing changes here. For this violation of the provisions of the Highway Code, fines ranging from 870 to 1160 LEI will be applied, so you must be very careful.

The Highway Code was designated as having too high fines for cyclists, according to the USR, and this would keep some people away from these means of public transport. Of course, here they were not referring to those who cross the street on pedestrian crossings by bicycle, do not respect the red color of the traffic light, etc.

The Highway Code should have kept fines from the third class of sanctions for these contraventions, but unfortunately it went to the second class for them as well.
