UPDATED: The number of deaths rises to 14, the Romanian authorities confirming a new person who died due to the Coronavirus.

It is about a 52-year-old man hospitalized in the Suceava County Emergency Clinical Hospital who was confirmed positive for COVID 19 on March 23, 2020 and who died this afternoon.

The man was suffering from obesity."


The coronavirus continues to infect Romanians, so the authorities officially announced today a number of 906 cases registered in our country, an increase compared to yesterday, as expected, things are going in the direction that was announced by the authorities .

The authorities in Romania have imposed new travel restrictions starting today, from 12:00, in order to limit as much as possible the movement of the population and the spread of the Coronavirus, military ordinance 3 being imposed from this moment by the authorities in Romania.

The number of cases of infection with the new Coronavirus increased by 144 cases compared to the same time yesterday, but the number of cured people also increased to 86, with only 7 people, 13 deaths being recorded so far.

Unfortunately, there are 18 patients in intensive care, of which 8 are in a serious condition, and as far as people in quarantine are concerned, we have 6016 people, while 96.055 people are in isolation at home, the increase being very high compared to yesterday.

"Until today, March 25, 906 cases of people infected with the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) have been confirmed in Romania. Of the 906 people confirmed positive, 86 were declared cured and discharged (53 in Timișoara, 23 in Bucharest, 6 in Craiova, 2 in Constanța, one in Cluj and one in Iași).

Until today, March 25, 13 people diagnosed with infection with COVID-19 and with pre-existing chronic diseases, admitted to hospitals in Bucharest, Iași, Suceava, Arad, Craiova, Timișoara and Bacău, have died.

Since the last information sent by the Strategic Communication Group, another 144 new cases of illness have been registered.

The newly confirmed patients range in age from 3 to 79 years.

At the moment, 18 patients are admitted to ATI, of which 8 are in serious condition. The health status of the other patients is good, stable.

On the territory of Romania, there are 6.016 people in institutionalized quarantine for whom checks are being carried out to find out if they have contacted the COVID-19 (coronavirus) virus. Another 96.055 people are in isolation at home and are under medical monitoring. We note that these figures regarding quarantined and isolated people do not include the figures regarding the situation in the city of Bucharest, for which we will communicate as soon as possible.

Until this date, at the national level, 14.466 tests have been processed, of which 646 in private medical units.

In the last 24 hours, 1.391 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112 and 9.359 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.

Until now, 167 criminal files have been drawn up by the authorized structures of the MAI, under the aspect of committing the crime of thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 para. 1 Criminal Code. At the same time, the Police and Gendarmerie applied 1.336 contraventional sanctions for non-compliance with isolation/quarantine measures.

Also, on the occasion of the entry formalities into the country, the Border Police drew up 4 criminal files, in which 18 people are investigated, under the aspect of committing the crime of falsifying statements, an act provided for and punished by art. 326 Criminal Code.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other countries, according to the information obtained by diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania abroad, up to now, 51 Romanian citizens have been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 (coronavirus): 38 in Italy, 4 in Spain, 2 in Namibia, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in France and one each in Tunisia, Ireland and Luxembourg. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and up to this moment, 8 Romanian citizens abroad, 7 in Italy and one in France, have died.

We remind citizens to consider only information verified through official sources and to call for recommendations and other information on the TELVERDE line – 0800.800.358. The TELVERDE number is not an emergency number, it is a telephone line dedicated strictly to informing citizens. Also, Romanians abroad can request information about preventing and combating the virus at the line specially dedicated to them +4021.320.20.20.

According to Military Ordinance no. 3 of 24.03.2020, starting today, March 25, at 12.00, the movement of all persons outside the home/household is prohibited, with the following exceptions:

  • a) travel in professional interest, including between home / household and the place / places of professional activity and back;
  • b) traveling for the provision of goods that cover the basic needs of people and pets/domestic animals, as well as goods necessary for carrying out professional activity;
  • c) travel for medical assistance that cannot be postponed or carried out remotely;
  • d) travel for justified reasons, such as child care/accompanying, assistance to elderly, sick or disabled persons or death of a family member;
  • e) short journeys, near the home/household, related to the individual physical activity of people (excluding any team sports activities), as well as for the needs of pets/domestic animals;
  • f) travel for the purpose of donating blood, to blood transfusion centers;
  • g) traveling for humanitarian or voluntary purposes;
  • h) traveling to carry out agricultural activities;
  • i) the movement of agricultural producers for the marketing of agri-food products.

At the same time, the movement of people who have reached the age of 65, outside the home/household, is only allowed between 11.00 and 13.00, strictly for the following reasons: travel to secure goods that cover the basic needs of people and pets /domestic, travel for medical assistance that cannot be postponed nor carried out remotely, travel for justified reasons, such as caring for/accompanying a minor, assisting other elderly, sick or disabled persons, or in the event of the death of a family member, travel short, near the home/household, related to the individual physical activity of people (excluding any collective physical activities), as well as for the needs of pets/domestic animals. The circulation of people over 65 years old, outside the home/household, is also allowed outside the time interval 11.00 - 13.00, if this is done in professional interest or for carrying out agricultural activities.

People over the age of 65, who present medical emergencies, will call the single emergency number 112, to be taken over by the ambulance services.

To verify the reason for travel, employees present their work ID or certificate issued by the employer, authorized natural persons, owners of individual businesses, members of family businesses, freelancers and people practicing agricultural activities present a declaration on their own responsibility, completed in advance, and for verification the reason for moving in other situations, a self-responsible declaration, completed in advance, is presented. For all situations provided for in Military Ordinance no. 3, the persons will also present the identity document.

Since the entry into force of Military Ordinance no. 2 and until now, 450 people who did not respect the self-isolation period have been placed in institutionalized quarantine. Also, 8 people in quarantine left the location where they were placed, for which the measure of quarantine was ordered for a new period of 14 days."
