Telekom is not in a hurry to make massive investments in a 5G network in Romania, and still considers that Orange, Vodafone, DIGI Romania are not going in a very good direction from this point of view, because the implementations made by them would not be really that good.
Telekom has not invested in 5G in Romania because it does not want to be caught in a situation where the Romanian Government would change its position regarding this technology in our country. The CEO of Telekom has repeatedly said that until the auction for 5G frequencies is organized, the company he leads will not invest in a network of this kind, and so far he has kept his word, although the competition almost completely surpassed it.

Telekom he won't have much to wait, however, and that's because somewhere in the fall, the auction for the 5G frequencies that will be used in our country will take place. Until then, it will also be decided whether Huawei's 5G equipment will be allowed for the 5G networks in Romania, and Telekom will know if it will be able to rely on this very important partner, or if it will have to find an alternative for 5G equipment.
Telekom took a very risky decision by refusing to create a 5G network in Romania, and this is because we are already approaching the 1-year mark since DIGI Romania and Vodafone have their own infrastructures. The auction for 5G frequencies will take place sometime in the fall, so Telekom could announce its 5G network only in the first part of next year, so in a very long time, so all customers will have to wait even longer for this technology.
Telekom it has a weak mobile internet, much weaker than what Orange and Vodafone offer in Romania, and this has been perfectly visible for a very long time, 5G could help it, but for that we still have to wait.
