The Ministry of Health announced today that it bought no less than 115 million protective masks for the citizens of Romania, a huge figure, which will still reach 2.3 million people who cannot afford to buy them themselves.

The Ministry of Health explains below how the masks will be distributed, which cost 0.68 LEI a piece, and are probably not surgical, because this is not mentioned, but only for protection, each eligible person in the program will receive a box of 50 masks .

"The Ministry of Health today finalized the purchase of protective masks for families and disadvantaged people.

According to the Emergency Ordinance approved by the Government of Romania, the purchase of the protective masks was carried out through the negotiation procedure without prior publication under the conditions provided by the legislation in force and based on the requirements made by the local public authorities.

Following the completion of the purchase, 115 million masks worth 73 lei without VAT will be purchased, with a unit price of 600 lei without VAT/mask.

The protective masks will be transported directly to the public health departments within a maximum period of up to 7 days and will be distributed to the beneficiaries by the local public authorities with the help of community nurses and health mediators.

Each eligible person will receive a number of 50 protective masks. Approximately 2 people will benefit from this support, as follows:

  • a) persons from beneficiary families of social aid granted on the basis of Law no. 416/2001 on the guaranteed minimum income, with subsequent amendments and additions;
  • b) persons from families receiving family support allowance granted on the basis of Law no. 277/2010 on family support allowance, republished, with subsequent amendments and additions;
  • c) retirees of the public pension system whose rights are up to 704 lei, inclusive, representing the level of the social allowance for retirees provided for by the Emergency Government Ordinance no. 6/2009 on the establishment of the guaranteed minimum social pension, with subsequent amendments and additions;
  • d) disabled persons who earn income exclusively from the social benefits provided for by art. 42 and art. 58 of Law no. 448/2006 on the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities, republished, with subsequent amendments and additions."
