Telekom: The sale to Orange is COMPLICATED by the Romanian State

Telekom's sale to Orange has been greatly complicated by the Romanian state, this is why the German group is running into obstacles in its intention to leave the country.

Telekom complicated

Telekom it is currently going through a very complex process that is kept away from the eyes and ears of the customers, even if it will eventually have a major impact on them as well. For some time, Telekom has been waiting for the approval of the Romanian Government to sell its fixed services division to those from Orange, with whom it reached an agreement regarding the transaction, but the approval does not come, and the mobile services division still does not have a buyer, the little known to the public.

Telekom would consider another option besides the segmented sale of the fixed and mobile services divisions, the German group also exploring the option of selling the entire company to a single buyer. Here things become very complicated, and this is because Telekom has an important national infrastructure for Romania's national security, so that any sale to a foreign company involves receiving several approvals from the Romanian state.

Telekom: The sale to Orange is COMPLICATED by the Romanian State

Telekom is waiting for approval from the Romanian Government and the Competition Council to sell its fixed services division to Orange, a company that already operates in our country, and that has a mobile infrastructure throughout the country. If Telekom wanted to sell its entire company to a foreign buyer, then an approval would have to be received from the Supreme Defense Council of the Country, this of course separately from the European Commission, which must give its approval now anyway.

Telekom has been exploring for more than a year the options it has to sell its divisions in Romania, and the process is more complicated than the one through which they were bought from Cosmote and Romtelecom. Part of the complications comes from the fact that the Romanian state is a shareholder in the fixed services division, which is a shareholder in the mobile one, so nothing can be done without its consent, which brings even more headaches for the company, the bureaucracy holding things instead of a long time.

Telekom launched many very good offers during the period in which he explores leaving Romania, starts to increase the number of clients, income, profit, and maybe he will change his mind about leaving.
