Telekom: The MAJOR decision with which it avoided a HUGE problem

Telekom made a very important decision with which it avoided a huge problem that other telecommunications operators in Romania will face.

Telekom vision

Telekom made a very important decision last year that now helps it avoid a huge problem that Orange, Vodafone, DIGI will most likely face in the coming months. Those from Telekom took the decision last year not to invest in a 5G infrastructure in Romania until the Romanian state decides on the equipment suppliers with which it will be possible to collaborate, but also until the frequencies for networks.

Telekom is the only telecommunications operator in Romania that currently does not have a 5G infrastructure, built on the 4G network frequencies, like the rest of the companies, but the decision turns out to be good. Orange, Vodafone, DIGI also used Huawei equipment in the 5G infrastructure they built in Romania, a new law could ban those equipment from being used, so the operators could be forced to give them up, and Telekom avoided such a headache.

Telekom: The MAJOR decision with which it avoided a HUGE problem

Telekom will make its 5G infrastructure based on the legislation that will be adopted in Romania, and based on the frequencies that will be really useful for such telecommunications networks in our country. The decision from 2019 has only now revealed its logic and true value, even if we criticized it in the past, but Telekom still escapes the headaches that operators in Romania will have after the law that we talked about today, which will ban Huawei's 5G equipment, it will be doped.

Telekom it will not go through the situation in which other operators from other countries go through, forced to give up Huawei equipment in the course of the next years, and to replace them with equipment from other companies. This means that when Telekom launches its 5G network, if it does not leave Romania until then, it will do so on the basis of equipment approved for use in Romania, and Europe, by the authorities, i.e. safe equipment.

Telekom is currently in negotiations to sell all its fixed and mobile infrastructure in Romania, so it is possible that by the winter, when the authorities will decide on the laws and 5G auctions, we will talk about another operator.
