Orange: OFFICIAL, Premiere Announced for Romanian Customers

Orange 5G Bucharest coverage

Orange has achieved something that no other telecommunications operator has managed to do so far, and their feat deserves praise from all points of view, especially since we are finally talking about the future of our country.

Orange is the first telecommunications operator that managed to cover 100% of the city of Bucharest with a 5G network, offering connectivity of up to 1.2 Gbps for those who have phones capable of using the technology used by the operator.

"Bucharest, August 24, 2020. Orange Romania announces the expansion of the 5G network and places Bucharest among the top European cities in terms of connectivity, offering 5G coverage for 100% of the capital's population.

5G connectivity for all Bucharest residents

Orange customers can now enjoy unlimited connectivity and access to the best performing 5G mobile network, anywhere in Bucharest. The capital thus becomes the first city in Romania to offer 5G connectivity for all its residents through the Orange mobile network. Thus, those with an Orange 5G subscription and a compatible phone will benefit from maximum download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.

This premiere completes Orange's promise to offer its customers access to the most extensive and high-performance mobile network in Romania, but also to the latest technologies, such as 5G. Currently, the Orange 5G[1] network is available in Bucharest, Otopeni and Voluntari and in Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timisoara, Brașov, Constanţa and Mamaia.

"For over 20 years, the performance of the Orange network has been the main guarantee of the quality of the services we offer. Today we are taking another important step in this direction by launching the 5G network in Bucharest for 100% of the capital's population. For Orange customers, this translates into higher internet speeds and an extremely low network response time when accessing services, whether we're talking about streaming video content or intense gaming sessions. In addition, by expanding the 5G network, we support the businesses of the future that will use this technology for automation projects, IOT, Smart City or the development of autonomous cars." said Emmanuel Chautard, Orange Chief Technology Officer.

The expansion of the 5G network is added to the constant investments that Orange makes for the development of the telecom infrastructure in Romania. Thus, at the end of the second quarter of this year, against the background of the increase in mobile data consumption by over 40% in Q2 2020 compared to Q2 2019, 98.86% of the country's population benefited from 4G coverage in the Orange network, while the coverage 4G+ was extended and included 59.63% of the country's population.

The performance of the network was recognized by the independent auditor Ookla who, based on the results obtained even from the Romanian users of the SpeedTest application, designated Orange as the network with the fastest mobile internet and the most extensive coverage in Romania. The top experience of customers in the Orange network was recently confirmed by the netograf.ro report, the application made available by ANCOM, for monitoring the quality of internet services. According to the netograf.ro comparative measurements made for the main telecom operators, the Orange network registers the highest speeds both in the case of mobile and fixed internet services.
