Nelu Tataru: the number of coronavirus vaccine doses allocated to Romania

Nelu Tataru, the Minister of Health, revealed today how many doses of vaccine for the new Corona virus will be allocated to Romania by the European Union based on the contracts made for the purchase of this serum, when it will be approved for use on a large scale.

Nelu Tataru says that Romania will receive 1.290.000 doses from the first tranche of 30 million doses contracted by the European Union, i.e. a percentage of 4%, equivalent to that of our country's population in relation to its total population The European Union now.

"Every month, the European community will receive a number of vaccines from these contracts, of which we benefit from that 4%. As you know, in the study of a vaccine there are phase I, phase II, in general they are on a smaller sample and on healthy people, without comorbidities. A stage or phase III follows, in which there are larger samples and for people with comorbidities.

At this moment, from what we know and from our European partners, there are around 6 companies doing this study, two of them have already passed to phase III. At the level of the European community, we are engaged and we are, let's say, caught up in this initiative, following that from January, perhaps, we will also benefit from the first doses of the vaccine. The European community will receive 30 million in a first installment, having discussions and firm contracts with a number of companies, and we will receive a part of these vaccines, based on the number of the population. It was decided, of the 30 million doses of vaccine that will be received in a first installment by the European community, we are with 4% - 1.290.000 doses." said Nelu Tataru at DIGI 24.
