Romanian Post: IMPORTANT Announcement for Romanians in the country

Romanian post office constant customs office

The Romanian Post has published today a very important announcement aimed at all Romanians in the country, and this is because it managed to open a new customs point for shipments from China and Australia, the number of which is constantly increasing during the Coronavirus pandemic.

"Bucharest, September 4, 2020 – The Romanian Post National Company continues its development by opening a new office – the Constanta International Exchange Office. It will ensure the processing of international mail and parcels sent by sea to China and Australia and arriving from Singapore and Israel.

The inauguration of the new operational unit took place today, at the headquarters located in the Logistic Park in Constanţa, in the presence of the Director General of the Romanian Post, Horia Grigorescu, and the sub-prefect of Constanţa, Șenol Ali. The new work point will have a head of the international exchange office and 6 employees who will ensure the physical exchanges of postal shipments with non-resident postal operators in Romania and who will collaborate with representatives of the maritime authorities, customs and border police in carrying out the activity.

The Constanța International Exchange Office will also ensure the transit of consignments sent from Moldova to China and Australia. Thus, the Romanian Post will collect the closed transit fees stipulated by the Acts of the Universal Postal Union, which will lead to an increase in the company's revenues.

"The establishment of this office was increasingly necessary, especially in the current epidemiological context when, as a result of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, many flights departing from Bucharest to all corners of the world were cancelled. Thus, the representatives of the Romanian Post were constantly looking for alternative methods for sending international postal items. At the same time, another reason for the opening of this office is the fact that there are postal operators who also consider the sea transport solution in the relationship with Romania. For example, Israel and Singapore," said Horia Grigorescu, General Director of the Romanian Post.

The schedule will be established according to the requests and the acceptance of the customs authority, and the frequency of the import containers will be given by the shipments of the partner postal operators. The first shipment today consisted of 7,8 tonnes of shipments to China and 1,5 tonnes of shipments to Australia.”
