European Commission: Christmas restrictions in Europe due to the Coronavirus

European Commission Restrictions Christmas Coronavirus

The European Commission is involved in giving European states the opportunity to impose restrictions during the Christmas period to slow the spread of the Coronavirus, recommending that physical services, in churches or other places of worship, be replaced with online transmissions.

The European Commission wants to avoid a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, one that could come after the winter holidays, Christmas and New Year normally bring extremely many people together to celebrate, but the European authorities want this not to happen it happens again.

"I know that those who have shops, bars, restaurants want the restrictions to end, but we must learn from the mistakes made in the summer and avoid repeating them. A too quick and excessive easing of measures becomes a risk in the face of a third wave after Christmas.

If liturgies and gatherings are subject to special caution, this should not discourage us. In recent months it has become clear how it is possible to celebrate safely, in full compliance with the rules. We are sure it will be like this at Christmas and will continue to be a good sign of solidarity with everyone."
