The Romanian Police made a very important announcement regarding the first day of 2021 and the contraventional sanctions it applied throughout the country for not wearing a protective mask, and not only that.

"We find ourselves at the beginning of this year without special events and we thank the citizens for the responsibility with which they understood to spend these days, but especially the night between years, taking into account the measures to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were on duty, to ensure and maintain public order and peace, to manage emergency situations, to prevent and combat the criminal phenomenon and to check how health protection rules are respected.

At the national level, on the first day of the year, MAI employees intervened in 5.463 events, most of which were reported through 112.

In the last 24 hours, more than 1.300 interventions in emergency situations were managed.

An action by the firefighters that required the activation of the Red Intervention Plan took place this very night around 3 o'clock, at the Municipal Hospital - Psychiatry Department in Roman, Neamț County. The fire was extinguished in about an hour.

No casualties were recorded, the medical personnel and patients being evacuated in time. Four people were slightly intoxicated by smoke. The fire appears to have started from a lit cigarette.

On the first day of the year, there was a decrease in the number of violent crimes by 80% compared to the beginning of 2020.

The number of perpetrators of crimes caught in the act is increasing compared to last year, from 85 to 143.

Also, at the national level, MAI staff applied 5.078 contraventional sanctions in the amount of 1,9 million lei.

Traffic police officers were mobilized on roads where problems are usually reported to provide support to drivers and prevent serious traffic accidents. Obviously, drivers who knowingly ignored traffic rules were also detected. In the last 24 hours, 225 driving licenses were suspended and 42 registration certificates were withdrawn.

On the first day of the year, MAI employees continued the actions to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, acting alongside representatives of ANSVSA, ANPC, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Transport and representatives of local public authorities.

The MAI troops carried out three missions to accompany and ensure the transport of the vaccine against COVID-19.

Also, more than 1.100 spot control actions were carried out throughout the country regarding how to comply with health protection measures.

About 2.500 economic operators, 107 passenger transport operators and almost 6.000 points of interest were checked, including about 2.000 restaurants, terraces, fast food.

Also, more than 64.000 people were checked.

On the first day of the year, almost 2.800 contraventional sanctions were applied in the amount of over 684 thousand lei: over 2.000 sanctions were applied for not wearing a protective mask, 586 for violating traffic restrictions, 36 for not respecting physical distancing and 19 for violating quarantine or isolation measures.

Another 40 sanctions were applied for organizing or participating in public or private events or for non-compliance with the measures ordered regarding the organization of passenger transport or the work schedule.

At the same time, three offenses of combating the prevention of diseases were found.

These control actions will continue to ensure that sanitary protection measures are respected and the health of Romanians is not put at risk."
