The Romanian government postpones vaccination for tens of thousands of people

The Romanian government announced today the postponement of the vaccination against the Coronavirus for 66.884 people, with over 30.000 more than the previous days due to the reduction in deliveries and for the vaccine produced by the Moderna company.

"For the smooth running of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, the National Committee for the Coordination of Vaccination Activities against COVID-19 (CNCAV) makes the following clarifications:

As of January 28, 35.304 essential workers scheduled for vaccination between January 28 and February 11 are being rescheduled for the first dose. The vaccination appointment of these persons was postponed by 10 days, starting on February 8, in the order of the initial appointment.

Given the:

  1. The decrease in the quantities of vaccine previously delivered by BioNTech Pfizer, as well as the lack of predictability regarding the vaccine tranches delivered by the company Moderna, for the months of February and March. We specify that this pharmaceutical company announced, today, the delivery on February 5 of 42.000 doses (a discount of approximately 20%), but offered the assurance that their number will be supplemented later;
  2. The EMA announcement of January 28 regarding the modification of the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) of Comirnaty, namely the clarification of the indication for the administration of the booster dose exactly 21 days after the administration of the first dose.

CNCAV takes it as a safety measure, to ensure the administration of the booster to the people who were administered dose 1, the rescheduling, starting on January 30, of the 66.884 people under 65 years of age, for the administration of dose 1, between January 30 and February 11, for the date of February 16 and after, in the order of the original planning.

People over the age of 65 remain at their original appointment. At the same time, the vaccination of people from residential and medico-social centers, people on dialysis, immobilized or unable to move, and the homeless will continue.

Each person will be notified by SMS of the date and time interval at which they were rescheduled for vaccination, will receive a new receipt by e-mail and will find the information in the "My Appointments" section of the account created in the appointment platform. At the same time, confirmation of the rescheduling will also be communicated via an answering machine.

We make it clear that this situation is temporary, until February 15. Thus, as an interministerial body with the role of coordinating the Vaccination Campaign against COVID-19, CNCAV is concerned with ensuring a favorable and safe environment for carrying out all vaccination activities in the best conditions. At this moment, the fundamental public health interest in Romania is represented by the vaccination, based on informed consent, of as many people as possible, in the shortest possible time. CNCAV welcomes the increased interest of citizens in vaccination, interest revealed by the data on the large number of people who have actually been vaccinated and people who have registered for vaccination."
