UBER: Huge Compensation Paid to a Discriminated Passenger

UBER is the largest ridesharing platform in the whole world, but we are talking about a company that works with the help of hundreds of thousands of drivers from all over the world, and because of this, problems can arise. We are talking about one of them now, and this is because UBER was forced following an arbitration to pay the sum of 1.1 million dollars to a passenger who had very serious problems when using the platform's services.

UBER was forced to pay this amount to a blind woman from the USA, she was refused 14 times by drivers who accepted the rides initiated by her, being tricked by at least one, and verbally abused by others. According to the woman's testimony, the UBER drivers complained about the fact that they had to transport in the car including the dog or Bernie, who helps her to move, some of them verbally abusing her, others tricking her into arriving at the destination, only to leave in another location before the end.

UBER received complaints from the woman who was even fired from her job because the drivers refused to transport her where she needed to go, but they did not solve the problem she reported. The client from UBER felt discriminated against because of the behavior of the ridesharing platform's drivers, and this led to the imposition of the decision that these compensations of 1.1 million dollars should be paid by the company.

UBER says he warned his drivers about the obligation to take over in the cars, including the dogs that help the visually impaired to move, but not all of them want to do this. The amount that UBER pays is huge, and this could lead to a change in the way drivers treat visually impaired passengers, but it all depends on how the drivers treat each situation in front of them, and I understand its importance.

In 2017, UBER signed an agreement to educate drivers on the platform about the obligations they have vis-à-vis people with visual impairments, but sometimes problems still arise.
