Announcement of the Romanian Post customs commission

The Romanian Post has published an official announcement announcing a series of very important changes for Romanians all over the country, and if you are going to send, or receive, a parcel from outside the European Union, then it is good to know that the commission will no longer be charged of 20 LEI upon receipt.

The Romanian Post says that only the customs presentation fee will be charged, which is 8 LEI per shipment, and you can read more details about the changes that will come into force starting on July 1 below.

"Only the following shipments will reach the offices with customs assistance:

  • postal items, regardless of value, having as recipients legal entities based throughout the country, with the exception of the Municipality of Bucharest and the County of Ilfov (for these the formalities will still be carried out at the level of the Bucharest International Exchange Office);
  • all mailings in the category parcel and EMSregardless of value, whose recipients I do not authorize Romanian Post for carrying out customs formalities;
  • items from the letter post category (recommended or simple referrals), having value over 150 euros and whose recipients I do not authorize Romanian Post for carrying out customs formalities;

Also, starting July 1, 2021, for all postal items having a customs value under 150 Euros whose recipients mandate The Romanian Post will no longer charge the commission fee of 20 lei for performing customs formalities; a customs presentation fee of 8 lei will be charged, all low-value postal items will be declared and put into free circulation at the level of the Bucharest International Exchange Bureau and directed to the district offices for tax collection (customs presentation + VAT) and distribution."
