Today YouTube made an official announcement regarding a special release that is scheduled for Romania and we are talking about a decision expected by many people because the Shorts format will finally be available in our country as well and here is what the company says below.

YouTube announces the availability of the beta version of YouTube Shorts in Romania, a new experience for creating short videos on mobile. First presented in September 2020, YouTube has expanded its Shorts service to 26 countries and will now be available in over 100 countries worldwide where YouTube is available.

While short videos could be viewed on the platform previously, users will be able to access the Shorts creation tools for the first time, which include a multi-segment camera for combining multiple video cuts, the ability to record with music, choose speed settings and more.

New features also include the ability to use audio content not only from other short videos, but also from YouTube videos. This way, users can put your creative touch on the content they love to watch on YouTube, helping to attract new audiences, whether it's reacting to their favorite jokes, testing out the latest recipe of a creator or re-staging of sketches. Creators will be in control and will be able to opt out if they don't want their long videos remixed.

In addition, with the international expansion of the product, a new set of features is also launched, such as:

  • adding text at certain points in the video;
  • automatic addition of subtitles to the short video;
  • record up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera;
  • adding video clips from the phone gallery to recordings made with the Shorts camera;
  • adding basic filters for color correction in short videos, more effects to be released in the future.

"We want to make it easy and fun to create short videos," said Todd Sherman, Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts. "As we develop Shorts with our creators and artists, we'll add more features for users to test," he added.

When it comes to music, artists and creators will have a vast library of songs to use in their short videos from over 250 labels and publishers, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Music Publishing, Warner Music Group and Warner Chappell Music, Believe, Merlin, Because Music, Beggars and Kobalt.

A seamless YouTube viewing experience

Another key component of the product experience is for users to find short videos they like and for creators to be discovered. So we've introduced a dedicated Shorts row on YouTube's home page, launched a new viewing experience that lets you easily swipe vertically from one video to another, and we'll soon add a Shorts tab on mobile so that users make it easier for them to access Shorts content with a single tap. Globally, the YouTube Shorts player has exceeded 6,5 billion global daily views.

Shorts will be integrated into the YouTube experience that users already know. For example, if a user hears a snippet of a song in a short video, they can easily find the full song, watch the music video, or learn more about the artist. All on YouTube.

We support mobile content creators

YouTube has helped an entire generation of creators turn their creativity into a source of income and become the next generation of media companies. Over the past three years, we've paid out more than $30 billion to creators, artists and media companies.

Because Shorts are a new way to watch and create on YouTube, the company has been looking at various ways to monetize short videos and reward creators for their content, including the YouTube Shorts Fund recently announced, a $100 million fund distributed over 2021 and 2022.

“We know it's going to take a while to get everything right and we're just getting started. We can't wait for you to try Shorts and help us create a first-class short-form video experience, right on YouTube,” said Sherman.

The beta version of Shorts is launched globally and will soon be available for all users in Romania.
