European Commission: The vaccination rate in Romania must be increased

European Commission Vaccination Rate Romania

The European Commission, through the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, says that the vaccination rate must increase in Romania, which is below 30% at the moment, far behind the majority of civilized European states.

The European Commission is asking for something that is impossible as long as the incidence rates are low in Romania and there are no restrictions or fear of infection, but things will change after the daily number of infections increases and movement restrictions will begin to be imposed.

"The Minister of Health, Ioana Mihăilă, had today, July 16, at the ministry's headquarters, a meeting with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, the main topics of discussion regarding the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and the strengthening of cooperation and coordination between Member States and European institutions in the field of health to strengthen the response and resilience of health systems to health crises.

During the meeting, the Minister of Health, Ioana Mihăilă, conveyed that Romania continues its efforts to increase the number of vaccinated people, especially in rural areas and among the vulnerable population, among the objectives being the start of the vaccination process in specialized outpatient clinics and increasing the capacity of vaccination in family doctors' offices.

"We are bringing the vaccine closer to the people, that's why during this period, together with the National Committee for the Coordination of Activities on Vaccination against COVID-19, we are mobilizing resources especially in the rural environment and among the vulnerable population to increase the vaccination rate there as well. We are focusing our efforts on increasing the vaccination capacity at family doctors' offices and on starting vaccination in specialized outpatient clinics in hospitals," said the Minister of Health, Ioana Mihăilă.

"I welcome Romania's efforts to speed up the vaccination campaign. It is now urgent that vaccination efforts be redoubled as we move into summer. My message is addressed to all Romanians – vaccines work, vaccines protect, vaccines protect us, our families and our health systems. We should make the most of this opportunity to get back to our normal lives," said Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety."
