THE MOON: The INCREDIBLE Mystery Revealed to All Mankind

MOON protection

The MOON, the natural satellite of the Earth, still hides many secrets even though it is the closest cosmic object in the universe and even though it has been and remains intensively monitored for many, many decades. One of these secrets was finally revealed by scientists, who managed to confirm the fact that the moon did not have a magnetic field for the entire duration of its existence, at the moment it is completely missing to protect it.

The MOON has been observed for decades, and some of the mysteries that surround it are difficult to explain even if scientists have known about them for a very long time, and now we finally have a confirmation regarding its magnetic field. When the first samples from the moon were brought to Earth by means of the Apollo missions of the USA, scientists came to the conclusion that there would have been a magnetic field to protect it, but it disappeared at some point.

THE MOON: The INCREDIBLE Mystery Revealed to All Mankind

The MOON, according to findings from a new study, did indeed have a magnetic field at one point, but apparently only for a short period of time, which may provide many explanations for its evolution. The first soil samples brought from the moon by the Apollo missions contained iron, and this would have suggested the fact that it would have had a magnetic field, that is, an iron core that would spin at a certain speed to create that magnetic field, but no one could explain why he disappeared.

"We definitively found that some of the samples did indeed contain magnetic minerals capable of preserving high-fidelity signals of ancient magnetic fields. But the stones had not registered such signals. This suggests that the Moon had no magnetic field for most of its history."

Since then, the MOON has been at the center of many theories regarding its magnetic field, but it was only when the analysis processes of the samples were improved that it was discovered that although it had a magnetic field, it was short-lived. Only one of the soil samples brought from the moon contained iron to confirm that it would have had a magnetic field, the rest had no iron, so scientists confirmed the existence of a magnetic field in the past, but for a short period of time.

“So what explains previous discoveries of a magnetic Moon? The answer was in one of the samples: a small piece of dark glass containing tiny iron-nickel particles. The glass was made by a meteorite impact and showed clear evidence of a strong magnetic field. But it was formed only about 2 million years ago. Almost all geophysicists agree that the Moon had no magnetic field at that time because after 4,5 billion years of cooling there was not enough heat left to fuel the boiling of iron in the Moon's core to generate a field."

The MOON would look completely different today if it still had a magnetic field, and its exploration could have been much more difficult, but this is another mystery waiting to be explained.
