Coronavirus Romania Large Increase in Infections on October 14, 2021

The Corona Virus pandemic in Romania is registering a very large increase in the number of infections during this period, and today the authorities in the country confirm the fact that the number of new cases in the counties of Romania is not yet entering a phase of decrease.

The situation in Romanian hospitals is still very serious, and this is because the number of hospitalized people is still very high, and the number of patients in intensive care who need help is constantly increasing.

The vaccination campaign is recording increasing numbers of infections, and in the last few days more vaccinations have been recorded with the first dose, but the majority are still with dose 3, which means that we will see many more infections in the country.

"Until today, October 14, 1.414.647 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered on the territory of Romania, of which 4.937 are of re-infected patients, tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

1.210.494 patients were declared cured.

In the last 24 hours, 16.383 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, of which 330 are re-infected patients, tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

*Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

**As for cases from abroad, these are cases of citizens who came to Romania having been infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total of new cases not allocated by county.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 1.434 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

Until today, 40.765 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval 13.10.2021 (10:00) – 14.10.2021 (10:00) 304 deaths (149 men and 155 women), of which one before the reference interval, of patients infected with the new coronavirus were reported by the INSP , admitted to hospitals in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Bistrita-Năsăud, Brăila, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Călăraşi, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Giurgiu, Gorj, Harghita, Hunedoara, Iasi, Ilfov , Maramureș, Mehedinți, Mureș, Neamț, Olt, Prahova, Satu Mare, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Teleorman, Timiș, Vaslui, Vrancea and the City of Bucharest.

Among the 304 deaths, 1 was registered in the age category 10-19 years, 2 in the age category 20-29 years, 3 in the age category 30-39 years, 15 in the age category 40-49 years, 28 in age category 50-59 years, 68 in the age category 60-69 years, 110 in the age category 70-79 years and 77 in the age category over 80 years.

279 of the recorded deaths are of patients who had comorbidities, 13 deceased patients had no comorbidities, and for 12 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported to date.

A death prior to the reference interval was reported, occurring in September 2021, in Brașov county. In the reference interval (the last 24 hours), 303 deaths were recorded.

Of the total of 304 deceased patients, 280 were unvaccinated and 24 vaccinated. The 24 deceased vaccinated patients were aged between 48 and 87 years. All deceased vaccinated patients had comorbidities.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 17.610. Of these, 1.727 are hospitalized at ATI.

Out of the total of hospitalized patients, 440 are minors, 401 being hospitalized in wards and 39 in ATI.

Until this date, at the national level, 9.927.207 RT-PCR tests and 3.794.145 rapid antigen tests have been processed. In the last 24 hours, 26.171 RT-PCR tests (15.320 based on case definition and medical protocol and 10.851 on request) and 41.674 rapid antigen tests were performed.

On the territory of Romania, 122.331 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 16.153 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 59.649 people are in home quarantine, and 188 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

 In the last 24 hours, 8.851 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112 and 690 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on October 13, 2.119 contraventional sanctions, in the amount of 307.378 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 3 criminal files were drawn up yesterday for thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 Criminal Code.
