WHO New Information Regarding the Omicron Variant of COVID-19

The WHO revealed a series of new information regarding the Omicron variant of COVID-19, they were detailed by Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, responsible for the measures taken in response to the pandemic we are going through, but nothing is really unknown until now.

The WHO says that the Omicron variant seems to be more transmissible than the Delta variant, which remains dominant globally, but that it will not be long until we find out more information about this new variant.

"World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove:

  • Omicron has been reported in 38 countries in the 6 WHO regions;
  • we see increasing reports of Omicron in South Africa;
  • there are suggestions of increased transmissibility;
  • the Delta version is still dominant worldwide;
  • it will be a while before we have more information about Omicron.

Dr Maria Van Kerkhove is the Technical Lead for the COVID-19 Response and Head of the Emerging Diseases Unit at the World Health Organization.”
