The Ministry of Health officially announced today that the Government of Romania approved in today's Government meeting the draft GEO that allows family doctors to perform rapid antigen tests for the detection of COVID-19 in patients.

The Ministry of Health says that family doctors will be remunerated with the amount of 50 LEI for each person tested for the detection of COVID-19, i.e. the same amount that is offered including for people who are vaccinated against the same virus.

"At the request of the Ministry of Health, the Government of Romania approved in the meeting on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, the draft Emergency Ordinance to supplement Government Emergency Ordinance no. 3/2021 regarding some measures for the recruitment and payment of staff involved in the vaccination process against COVID-19 and the establishment of some measures in the field of health.

According to the document, family doctors in a contractual relationship with health insurance companies will be able to carry out the testing activity with rapid antigen tests from the nasopharyngeal sample in order to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection.

They will purchase the rapid antigen tests from among those included in the list approved by the European Commission, displayed on the website of the Ministry of Health, and for the testing activity carried out they will receive a fee of 50 lei/person, which includes the cost of the test, labor, the materials and protective equipment required for testing.

Family doctors, who carry out the rapid testing, have the obligation to report the results in the Corona Forms application, immediately after the testing, no later than 24:00 of the day on which the service was granted.

The testing activity will be carried out within the work schedule and all persons registered on the family doctor's own list, eligible for testing, as well as persons eligible for testing who do not have a family doctor or are registered on another's list, will benefit from it family doctor, at an interval of at least 48 hours, between two successive tests.

The persons eligible for testing are those suspected of being infected with the SARS COV2 virus, provided in the Methodology for the surveillance of acute respiratory syndrome with the new coronavirus (COVID-19), developed by the National Institute of Public Health, which is published at www.insp.gov .ro and is updated periodically.

This new medical service performed by family doctors will be done on the basis of a separate contract, of a civil nature, concluded with the health insurance company by the legal representative of the health unit or the provider of medical services in primary medical assistance, under the conditions provided by order of the Minister of Health and the President of the National Health Insurance House, which is approved within a maximum of 10 days from the date of entry into force of the new emergency ordinance.

Financing will be done from the state budget, by transfer to the Single National Health Insurance Fund."
