Minister of Energy: Last Minute Decision with Millions of Romanians Affected

The Minister of Energy revealed a last-minute decision that targets millions of Romanians from all over the country who currently receive invoices for energy and natural gas consumption, stating that ANPC has already started checks on suppliers and will force them to reissue the wrongly issued invoices .

The Minister of Energy also talks about the legislative changes that will help Romanians to get rid of the headache regarding the request to restore erroneously issued invoices, but also to respect the ceilings that are imposed for those who exceed the consumption limits imposed for capping.

"The suppliers should be obliged to return the money, not withhold it from the following invoices, because they benefited from this money by issuing invoices that violate the law. The non-enforcement of the law (n. ed. in the bills of November) is theft, and this must stop, and those who did this must be finished.

The invoices issued to the people must be cancelled, exactly what the prime minister said, and what I also said, the canceled invoices, people should not pay penalties, and the invoices must be redone. Suppliers must ex officio recalculate the wrongly issued invoices. A large supplier recognized this, and starting yesterday recalculated all invoices and issued them to customers.

I said that we are considering making a legislative change in this law on compensation in order to compel suppliers to recalculate their invoices. When we receive a higher bill, I have also seen bills of this kind, we have to compare the price per kW, in the end, both for energy and for gas, because we cannot compare the price if we have a higher consumption.

So if I consumed more, obviously the bill will be higher. The first thing I would do would be to talk directly with the supplier. If I see that I don't understand myself, there is ANPC and ANRE, and we will have a discussion with ANPC to create a special call center for this to be able to take over people's complaints.

There is a period of inertia of the suppliers in which they will see that things are serious, and that they cannot play with the Romanians' bills. The ANPC has been in control of all suppliers for a week in order to prevent this. I'm waiting for the results of the control at all energy and gas suppliers, and the complementary sanction is the re-invoicing of the invoices."
