Valeriu Gheorghita: The Official News for Romania Broadcast in Full Wave 5

Valeriu Gheorghita sends a new news for the millions of Romanians all over the country in full wave 5 of infections generated by the Coronavirus at the national level, the military doctor talking about the fact that 1.2 million children between the ages of 5 and 11 are eligible for vaccination.

Valeriu Gheorghita says this under the conditions that from January 26th, the immunization of children aged 5-11 will start throughout the country, but he expects that only somewhere between 250.000 - 260.000 children will actually be immunized during the vaccination campaign in Romania .

"Nationally, there are 1.200.000 children in this age group. From estimates made by the National Committee on Vaccinology, based on the intention to vaccinate expressed in several opinion polls, the vaccination rate likely to be reached in this age group would be somewhere around 20%, which means about 250.000 – 260.000 children.

But our message and primary recommendation is to those vulnerable children who are in evidence with chronic conditions, overweight children, with obesity, with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney diseases, with neoplasias.

Practically oncological, hematological or solid organ diseases, all these diseases, the diseases associated with congenital immunodeficiencies, with which the child is born and which, unfortunately, give him an increased risk of developing a serious form following the illness.

It is important to give priority to those who are most in need at the moment to get vaccinated and this is our medical message. Of course, access is universal, it is for all children who want to be vaccinated, for whom parents want to opt for this vaccination decision.

But in this situation, also taking into account the limited number of doses, we recommend in the first stage to those who need vaccination as soon as possible, because those children in this age group, who are clearly suffering from chronic conditions, need social insertion, to feel safe, to participate with physical presence at school, in educational activities. Or, from this point of view, we have to do this additional thing for them, to protect them by vaccination.:
