Coronavirus Romania: New Number of New Cases on January 18, 2022

Coronavirus Romania New Number New Cases January 18, 2022

The coronavirus continues to generate increasing problems in Romania due to the increasing number of infections which in turn generates an increasing level of occupancy of hospital beds, including in intensive care, the rate of growth being alarming during this period, which that won't change anytime soon.

The authorities are concerned about the coronavirus after the number of new cases increased so much that even doctors in hospitals began to complain that the number of hospitalizations has increased extremely recently, but for the time being no more restrictive measures will be taken serious for Romania, unfortunately.

As you already know very well, the vaccination campaign has entered a serious deadlock, and this is because for some time not many Romanians have been vaccinated with the first dose, the numbers constantly remaining below the value of 10.000 new immunizations with the first dose, on many days even below 5000, and wave 5 will be a very strong one for this reason.

"In the last 24 hours, 16.760 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, 8.642 more than the previous day. 1.697 of the new cases in 24 hours are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

*Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

**As for cases from abroad, these are cases of citizens who came to Romania having been infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total of new cases not allocated by county.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Below you have the graph made based on the reports received by the CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

In total, until today, January 18, 1.928.306 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered on the territory of Romania, of which 22.316 are of re-infected patients, tested positive after a period of more than 180 days after the first infection.

1.784.107 patients were declared cured.

Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 764 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

In today's report from alerte.ms.ro, for RT PCR tests, there are 3 laboratories that made the first report, thus there is a surplus of 27.771 tests to the total of RT PCR tests performed so far. I mention that these three laboratories sent explanatory emails to INSP in which they confirmed the data reported in alerte.ms.ro. The laboratories sent explanatory emails to the INSP, in which they confirmed the data reported through the IT application.

This correction does not affect the number of positive people, because each positive test is reported in coronaforms at the time of processing.

The number of positive people today is only the result of tests carried out in the last 24 hours.

On the territory of Romania, 64.071 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 4.513 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 66.905 people are in home quarantine, and 30 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
