Coronavirus Romania: New Number of New Cases on January 21, 2022

Coronavirus Romania New Number of New Cases January 21, 2022

The coronavirus is still one of the main problems facing the whole world at the moment, and in Romania the situation of new cases continues to be very serious, especially since the number of cases continues to grow exponentially from one week to the next, sometimes even and from one day to another.

The coronavirus brings more people to hospitals, and generates more reinfections among those who have been infected in the last 6 months, but the authorities say that the number of hospitalizations, including intensive care, is lower than in the case of the Delta variant, but this it could just be a momentary situation.

As you already know very well, the vaccination campaign is not going in the direction desired by the authorities in Romania, the number of immunized people being much lower than what is necessary for Romania to go through a wave 5 that is not so strong that to generate huge problems.

"In the last 24 hours, 19.649 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, 544 more than the previous day. 2.430 of the new cases in 24 hours are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

*Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

**As for cases from abroad, these are cases of citizens who came to Romania having been infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total of new cases not allocated by county.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Below you have the graph made based on the reports received by the CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

In total, until today, January 21, 1.983.670 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) were registered on the territory of Romania, of which 27.903 are of re-infected patients, tested positive after a period of more than 180 days after the first infection.

1.812.242 patients were declared cured.

Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 784 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

Until today, 59.477 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 20.01.2022 (10:00) – 21.01.2022 (10:00) 49 deaths (21 men and 29 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, admitted to hospitals in Alba, were reported by the INSP. Arad, Bacau, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Giurgiu, Harghita, Iași, Maramureș, Mureș, Olt, Prahova, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Teleorman, Timiș, Vaslui, Vrancea and the Municipality of Bucharest.

Of the 49 deaths, 2 were registered in the age category 40-49 years, 6 in the age category 50-59 years, 11 in the age category 60-69 years, 8 in the age category 70-79 years and 22 in the over 80 age category.

47 of the recorded deaths are of patients who had comorbidities, one deceased patient had no comorbidities, and one deceased patient had no comorbidities reported to date.

Of the total of 49 deceased patients, 43 were unvaccinated and 6 vaccinated. Vaccinated patients were between the age groups of 50-59 years and over 80 years. All vaccinated patients who died had comorbidities.

No deaths prior to the reference interval were reported.

In specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is 5.405, 460 more than the previous day. Also, 564 people are hospitalized at ATI, 17 more than the previous day. Of the 564 patients admitted to ATI, 65 have a certificate attesting to vaccination.

Out of the total number of admitted patients, 485 are minors, 473 being admitted to wards, 72 more than the previous day and 12 to ATI, one less than the previous day.

Until this date, at the national level, 11.537.775 RT-PCR tests and 6.831.514 rapid antigen tests have been processed. In the last 24 hours, 26.336 RT-PCR tests (13.991 based on case definition and medical protocol and 12.345 on request) and 55.994 rapid antigen tests were performed.

In today's report from alerte.ms.ro, for RT PCR tests, there is a laboratory that made the first report, thus there is a surplus of 492 tests to the total of RT PCR tests performed so far. This laboratory sent an explanatory e-mail to the INSP in which it confirmed the data reported in alerte.ms.ro.

This correction does not affect the number of positive people, because each positive test is reported in coronaforms at the time of processing.

The number of positive people today is only the result of tests carried out in the last 24 hours.

On the territory of Romania, 88.494 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 5.332 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 75.683 people are in home quarantine, and 86 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 6.519 calls were made to the single emergency number 112 and 522 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.

We remind citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs operationalized, starting on 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of health protection rules can be reported.

The calls are taken by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures to verify the reported aspects."
