Formula 1: Reason for Lewis Hamilton's RETIREMENT and Possible Replacements

Formula 1 Reason for RETIREMENT Lewis Hamilton Possible Replacements

Lewis Hamilton, the English driver of Formula 1, who competes for Mercedes AMG Petronas and the winner of the F1 World Championship seven times, (equally with the legendary Michael Schumacher), was knighted in 2020 by Queen Elizabeth of England, for his services in the world of sports.

Lewis Hamilton missed out on winning the Formula 1 championship in 2021 after a fierce battle with his Red Bull rival, Max Verstappen. Since then, the English driver has not offered any official statement, giving way to all kinds of rumors that suggest that he could leave the Mercedes team in 2022, the team with which he won no less than seven world titles. Although he still has a contract with the Mercedes team until 2023, Lewis Hamilton remains dissatisfied with the way the winner of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race was decided, which also decided the 2021 champion.

Lewis Hamilton thus missed the chance of winning the title with number 8 in Formula 1, and implicitly achieving a world record, thus surpassing Michael Schumacher. With the rumors of the English pilot's retirement, his place will be coveted by many pilots. One of them is the Formula E driver, Nick de Vries, the Dutchman who at the age of 27 is seen as one of the most talented drivers, he works for the Mercedes-EQ team. He is also the test and reserve pilot for Lewis' current team.

Formula 1 does not lack talented drivers, so if Lewis Hamilton decides to retire, one of those who could take his place could be Esteban Ocon, who in the past was part of the development program for young drivers of at Mercedes, winning his first title at 25 years old, in 2021 at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly, the pilot from Alpha Tauri, is also one of the young people who in the 2021 qualifications obtained good results for his team, and a move to Mercedes would not be impossible.

Lewis Hamilton's participation in the Formula 1 circuit in 2022 seems to remain possible only if the appointed head of the International Automobile Federation, Michael Massi, who decided to resume the race in Abu Dhabi, will be dismissed before the start of the season, which will have place in Bahrain on March 20.
