DNSC Alert Regarding an Online Fraud with the Professional Image

DNSC Online Fraud Alert Profi Image

DNSC has issued a new alert for Romanians across the country targeting an online fraud that is currently in full swing and that is using the Profi image to trick Romanians in many areas of the country, so it is important to remain vigilant.

“Attacks still try to take advantage of the seasonal sales and promotions period and continue to launch online traps for gullible or unwary users.

Below is an example of a site that hosts a fake promotional campaign that uses the image of Profi Romania to entice potential victims to click and provide you with sensitive data in hopes of receiving a prize.

Profi has already published a warning on the company's official communication channels, specifying at the same time that this #scam campaign is being propagated through fake social media pages or accounts.

Avoid accessing links from unknown or dubious sources!

If you've already clicked, check the address of the website you visited before taking any further action. Attackers often use link shortening tools to obscure the exact address. If the site has a strange domain (.xyz, .online, .info, etc.), different from the official one (.ro or .com), then it is most likely a site that propagates scam attacks or #phishing.

If an offer seems too good to be true, check the existence of this promotion on the official channels of the respective company.

Pay attention to the grammatical and expression correctness of the text in Romanian! Any glaring errors can be an indication of a possible attack.

Avoid providing personal, financial or login details if explicitly asked for online, especially if you are promised a quick win if you do!

Report such pages that propagate contests, fake promotions or unreal earning opportunities to the social network in whose space that post was published. Multiple reports in a short time can lead to the rapid suspension of the page that propagates malicious content.

If you have provided financial or card details following such social media links, we recommend that you contact your bank immediately to block your card and monitor your account transactions! If you have suffered material damage, you will need to file a complaint with the Romanian Police. At the same time, notify the Directory by phone 1911."
