The Minister of Defense announces an extremely important measure that was taken for Romania, and one that all Romanians should know about right now because we are all targeted by NATO's decisions to send combat groups to the country, and they would remain here without interruption.
The Minister of Defense also says that this could be a preliminary measure to the establishment of NATO military bases in our country, but it remains to be seen when and how this decision could be taken, the war in Ukraine greatly influencing these types of extremely important measures.
"It's a preparation, really, this is a decision that will probably be made in the future, it's a sensitive decision, and that's because you also have to deal with language. I participated in a rather strong debate at NATO in which some countries say that "permanent" does not sound good, because it would mean saying that the war is permanent.
And then it will be called a rotational force, or something like that, but we can consider it a strengthening that will be for a long time, at least this one. If until now we had battlegroups that came to Romania with France as a frame nation, this is another concept, from the NATO vigilance force, it is not permanent at this moment.
It is not excluded that these forces will also be part of a defensive military configuration here, but it is good that we will have this reinforcement with battlegroups in Hungary and Slovakia, so it will be a reinforcement and as a perspective strategic, and as a planned operation.
It does not mean that these battlegroups are the only soldiers who participate in this strengthening area of the eastern flank, but we also obviously have the 300 soldiers of the air forces, of the squadrons that were brought by the Americans, the Germans, or the Italians, and obviously all the forces in Europe, from the aircraft carriers, supervise this eastern flank.
We are talking about the military police that can be made from any country, so it is a serious and efficient reinforcement of the flank, as Romania always wanted. It is a solid area, not only the previous concept of collective security, now it is about establishing the strategic concept of NATO from June, the collective defense becoming a fundamental element."
