The European Commission sent its commissioner for the internal market to the US to have a discussion with Elon Musk regarding the new legislation on digital services, and this in the conditions that the American billionaire reached an agreement to buy the social media platform Twitter during last month.
"The European Commissioner responsible for the internal market, Thierry Breton, met yesterday with Elon Musk in Austin 🇺🇸 to discuss the Digital Services Act.
The act sets a new, unprecedented standard for the accountability of online platforms for illegal and harmful content.
Specifically, the legislative act on digital services contains:
- measures to combat illegal online goods, services or content;
- new measures to empower users and civil society;
- risk assessment and mitigation measures;
- strengthening the Commission's oversight and enforcement of very large online platforms."
