The Minister of Defense is talking to Romanians from all over the country about one of the most important decisions that was taken in relation to Romania during this spring, and here we are talking about a new NATO battlegroup that will arrive in Romania to strengthen the security of our borders in time that the war in Ukraine continues.
The Minister of Defense says that this new battlegroup is not very far from being sent to Romania, as inspections have already been made at the bases where the soldiers would arrive, so that somewhere during the months of June or August, the soldiers could arrive who- Our country is waiting for them, France being the leading nation in this situation.
"Obviously, they are working now, the actuality is for the other battlegroup, the one that was established together with the 4 present forward in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, so those that complete the present battlegroups further north, with 4 more towards south, where again France is the leading nation.
France has already announced the presence of Belgium and the Netherlands, we also have other proposals, but in principle, France being the framework nation that chooses the partners. We passed the inspection phase, we had inspections from the framework nation, they were delighted with the conditions they found at our place, they were also at Mihail Kogalniceanu, and Cincu, and in other areas.
It is a possibility (n. ed. to make a military base at Cincu), it has not been definitively chosen, but it is one of the very good possibilities because there are very good conditions, polygons nearby, mountains nearby, applications can be made interarms, you can work all the time in this area.
We intend that by the end of June, when that new strategic concept will be established through the NATO summit in Madrid, we will have in principle finalized all the conditions and the entire organization of this battlegroup, and probably that by the summer, July or August, we will also have the presence of troops on our territory. You saw that the American regiment from Germany came very quickly, in 2 weeks it came with all the equipment. So after the political-military decisions are made, things move very quickly.
Regarding the endowment we are doing these days, and today we had a discussion with the staff of the Romanian army, with Mr. General Petrescu, we started to discuss very seriously, and next week we will have a planning committee regarding the endowment and endowment of the army for years to come."
