Minister of Education: Unprecedented Modernization in Schools Officially Announced to Students

The Minister of Education announces some of the biggest changes for schools in Romania in recent years, and we are talking about an unprecedented modernization that the authorities are doing for computer labs and classrooms throughout the country, starting with digital blackboards that replace the classics.

The Minister of Education says, however, that the modernizations will not stop there, and this is because we will also have virtual reality, augmented reality, or 3D printing in the scope laboratories, 18.000 euros each being allocated to 5.000 schools to bring more technology forward the students.

"Educated Romania must produce effects, we have committed at the Government level to implement this project (n. ed. replacement of blackboards in schools) and to have the legislative package that will be available quickly. Then we have some deadlines that are clearly established in the PNRR, we cannot ignore them.

At the basic level, there will be an interactive whiteboard in each classroom, then over 5.000 schools will have computer labs. There are over 18.000 euros available for each computer lab in each school. Where there are functional computer labs, it's very good, I can use this money for a technological upgrade.

Where it doesn't exist at all, 18.000 euros is enough to create a "minimum" computer lab. Then we have 1.100 smart labs where we are talking about virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing, we are talking about robotics kits, there are 1.100 such laboratories in Romania, an average of 30 for each county, tenders must be organized for them .

We still have a very important number of 3.200 school minibuses, almost as many as the number of UATs in Romania, almost all electric, but tenders must be organized for these as well, and I can continue the list of these objectives from the PNRR, we put it together with the capacity of the ministry, and as I said that many times the local authorities do not have the capacity to write projects to access European funds, I admit with utmost honesty that we also have a capacity far from what is needed.

The Ministry remains the owner of the reform, has control, imposes the technical characteristics in order to avoid technical discrepancies, but the actual auctions must be organized decentralized. Besides, I would like to say that I made the decision to propose an example of decentralization to the Government. All children's palaces, school clubs, and all school sports clubs should be transferred from the administration of the ministry, because we cannot manage them efficiently, to the local authorities."
