Adrian Marinescu: Last Minute Declaration, Warning for Millions of Romanians

Adrian Marinescu, the director of the Institute of Infectious Diseases in Bucharest, talks about the two cases of monkey pox that have already been registered in Romania, and which cause concern among many people, saying that the world should be relaxed.

Adrian Marinescu reiterates what he said in the past, the fact that the transmission of this virus is not as easy as in the case of the Coronavirus, the flu, etc., and that there are no reasons for panic among the population, nor even mass vaccination , but in case of suspicion of infection, a doctor should be consulted.

"First of all, we should tell people that they should not be worried. The virus that generates monkey pox is transmitted with great difficulty from person to person. The epidemiological investigation carried out by the authorities in the case of the cases in Romania refers to direct contacts, so it should not go into the bank.

Regarding the symptoms, in the first days before the eruption, we are talking about fever, sore throat, muscle pain, joint pain, or inflamed ganglia, so it is difficult to figure out what is causing it. It's hard to tell at the beginning, anyway, the risk of transmission is greater when the rash appears, which is characteristic, with blisters.

It is true that you can also think of chickenpox, that is, chicken pox, but if you have an expert eye, you can make the diagnosis very easily. Even if these days there are isolated cases, we should pay particular attention to people who have symptoms, especially if there is also a possible eruption with blisters in their case.

Certainly, if we have a rash, we must go to the family doctor, it can be any other doctor who can guide us, and who can tell us if it is a real suspicion, and if it needs to be confirmed. Anyway, in general in any context, and in the present case, we are talking about a direct contact with a person who came from outside Romania.

Things are related to this epidemiological investigation, and related to some concrete conditions. I don't have to believe that the probability of getting infected is so high that every time I have a fever, I think I have monkey pox, no way. The main indication regarding vaccines is not immunization at the population level, but regarding direct contacts of infected people."
