DIGI Romania Enters the Belgium Telecommunications Market

Today, DIGI Romania made a surprise announcement regarding the entry into the Belgian market together with Citymesh NV as part of a partnership through which they will launch mobile telecommunications services on one of the important markets of Europe.

RCS & RDS SA, through the association with Citymesh NV, part of the IT Cegeka group, won the rights to use some frequencies in the mobile spectrum, as a result of participating in the auction organized by the Belgian Institute for Postal and Telecommunications Services ("BIPT") .

The acquisition of mobile frequencies in Belgium is part of the Group's ambitious strategy to expand its operations in Western European markets.

The authority that regulates telecommunications services in Belgium has offered the association between the two companies the rights to use frequencies in the 700 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 3600 MHz bands, which will allow them to build a new (a fourth) mobile communications network.

The total price that the parties will pay is EUR 114.330 million, an amount that will be paid during the period of use of the frequency rights.

"After Romania, Spain, Italy and Portugal (a market where we won frequency spectrum for a new entrant in 2021), we are excited to start preparing for building new generation networks and offering services to residential customers in Belgium. More details will be announced later this year. We are confident that, soon, we will develop networks and services of the highest quality, at affordable prices", said Valentin Popoviciu, Vice President of DIGI.

The rights of use will be definitively assigned by a decision that will be taken by BIPT in the following period. DIGI's entry into the Belgian market, in partnership with Citymesh, will boost competition between operators and positively influence the diversity of communications, content and additional services, from which Belgian consumers will directly benefit.

The Romanian operator has proven, over the years, that it has the experience and know-how necessary to build and operate quality telecommunications networks that use the latest technologies, in relation to the specifics and particularities of each market, at affordable prices all categories of consumers.
