The Minister of Defense: Last Hour, Serious Concern at the Borders Due to the War

The Minister of Defense speaks to millions of Romanians from all over the country about the existing concerns regarding the war that is on the borders of our country, but also the bombings carried out close to our country in recent days, and the situation encountered in the case of Serpilor Island now.

The Minister of Defense also says that all Romanians who are interested in going to the Romanian coast, on the shores of the Black Sea, can do so safely at the moment, so you can visit our entire coastal area without problems because we are safe .

"Here we are talking about a distance that we are thinking of, in terms of the metric system, but from a strategic point of view, Serpilor Island is also quite close, which is at a distance of 22 nautical miles, so still close to us. There has been information, for a long time, that there could be some bombings in 2 or 3 localities of Ukraine, which are close to the area through which the humanitarian transit to the country is made.

The area is the one through which Ukraine brings grain to us, and the bombing would have the role of stopping the aid there. Of course, this has not happened so far, but there is a possibility that it will happen in the future. These bombardments are surgical and are probably a response to the fact that the Ukrainian forces managed not only in Snake Island, but also to sink a tugboat heading towards the island, probably with equipment.

We can consider these bombings surgical, as they say in military practice, they are not a danger for us, they precisely targeted military devices or areas, according to the information we have. Of course, there is no danger of Romania being attacked, or any NATO country at this point in the war.

There is a concern for us because there is a conflict at a distance of 50-60 kilometers from the borders of Romania, that Serpilor Island is occupied by devices that do not only deal with radar surveillance, but that we feel from that area from time to time a jam that even reaches our territory.

Beyond these types of threats, we are talking from a strategic point of view, there is no direct threat regarding the population of those areas. We can say that there is no danger on the Black Sea coast, people can walk peacefully, there is a mine surveillance program and a demining program is being discussed around Odessa."
