Coronavirus Romania: Doubling the Number of New Cases, the Increase will Continue

Coronavirus Romania Doubling the Number of New Cases Continues to Increase

The coronavirus is starting to be more and more present in the communities in Romania, and this is because the number of new cases registered throughout the country has doubled in a single week, all because of the Omicron variant, and probably the BA.4 and BA substrains .5, which are spread all over Europe now.

The coronavirus has never disappeared in Romania, but compared to a few weeks ago, the number of daily cases increased by more than 5 times, 7.726 new cases being registered in the week of 27.06.202 - 03.07.2022, so more than 1.100 new cases in each day, and this because the basal reproduction rate also increased above the reference value 1, according to Alexandru Rafila.

The coronavirus has generated almost a doubling of the incidence rate in Romania in the last week, from 0.18 to 0.31, and this in the conditions where the number of hospitalized patients is approaching 1.000, with ATI being 52 people, half unvaccinated , but these numbers are increasing at the moment, unfortunately, because the Omicron version is very contagious.

The coronavirus has generated almost 3 million cases in Romania up to now, a good part of them being re-infections, and this is because neither the vaccines, nor the passage through the disease, offer long-term protection for people, something reconfirmed today by the minister Alexandru Rafila for Romanians from the whole country.

"Between June 27 and July 3, 2022, 7.726 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) were registered. 1.307 of the new cases in the last week are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection.

To date, on the territory of Romania, 2.927.187 cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2 have been registered. The incidence recorded at 14 days is 0.31. Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 375 people were reconfirmed positive.

In specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is currently 922. Also, at ATI, 52 people are hospitalized. Of the 52 patients admitted to ATI, 25 are unvaccinated. Out of the total number of currently admitted patients, 125 are minors, 124 being admitted to wards and 1 to ATI.

Until today, 65.755 people diagnosed with Sars-CoV-2 infection have died. In the interval 27.06.2022 (10:00) – 03.07.2022 (10:00) 16 deaths (11 men and 5 women) were reported by the INSP. The deaths were recorded: 1 in the age category 60-69 years, 9 in the age category 70-79 years and 6 in the category over 80 years.

All registered deaths are of patients who had comorbidities. Among the deceased patients, 4 were vaccinated and 12 were unvaccinated. Between June 27 and July 3, 18.076 RT-PCR tests and 56.678 rapid antigen tests were performed. Until this date, at the national level, 13.206.001 RT-PCR tests and 10.336.695 rapid antigen tests have been processed."
