Police warning regarding surgical interventions on animals

The police have issued a new warning for Romanians from all over the country regarding the way they treat their pets, namely against carrying out actions such as cutting off ears, or other surgical interventions for purposes other than curative, these interventions being prohibited by law .

You can see below a case from Baia Mare in which 12 dogs that suffered from unauthorized surgical interventions were discovered by the police, and were transported to safe locations.

12 dogs allegedly underwent surgical interventions to change the appearance of an animal, for purposes other than curative ones, i.e. ear cropping - this is what the police officers of the Maramureș Animal Protection Bureau discovered during a home search.

They also found 44 canine specimens, of different breeds, of which 16 canine specimens were pitbull hybrids, which it is suspected that a man would have bred them, with a view to commercialization.

In this case, investigations are carried out for committing the crimes of surgical interventions intended to change the appearance of an animal or other non-curative purposes and the importation or sale of dogs provided for in article 1, letter a of GEO no. 55 of 2002, republished, regarding the keeping regime of dangerous or aggressive dogs.

On July 5 this year, the police officers of the Maramureș Animal Protection Bureau executed a home search warrant, issued by the Baia Mare Court, for a building located in the town of Fărcașa.

The policemen's activities targeted a 34-year-old man from Baia Mare, who would have set up, in the mentioned location, a pen, where he would have raised and multiplied canine specimens provided for in article 1 of GEO no. 55 of 2002 regarding the keeping of dangerous or aggressive dogs.

Following the checks carried out at the building on Luceafărului Street, the police discovered 44 canine specimens, of different breeds, of which 16 canine specimens were mixed with pit bulls, which are suspected to have been bred for sale.

Also, 12 specimens were allegedly subjected to surgical interventions to change the appearance of an animal, for purposes other than curative ones, i.e. ear cropping.

The dogs were examined by veterinarians.

Next, the police officers carry out investigations to prove the entire criminal activity, under the guidance of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Baia Mare District Court, in terms of committing the crimes of surgical interventions intended to change the appearance of an animal or other non-curative purposes and the importation or sale of dogs provided for in article 1, letter a from GEO no. 55 of 2002, republished, regarding the keeping regime of dangerous or aggressive dogs.
