The military sailors have a new fast intervention boat available on the Danube, it has the name Eugeniu Botez and the boarding number 522. Available starting from July 15, it is used by the 88th division of the Romanian Naval Forces.

The fast intervention sloop "Eugeniu Botez", with the boarding number 522, entered the service of the Romanian Naval Forces on Friday, July 15, as part of the 88th River Star Division "Amiral Gheorghe Sandu" under the "Mihail Kogălniceanu" River Flotilla.

On this occasion, a military and religious ceremony was organized in Brăila Military Port, during which the ship was christened, and the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Mihai Panait, awarded "Admiral Gheorghe Sandu" to the commander of the 88th Riverine Division. the first flag of the new military ship.

The "Eugeniu Botez" intervention sloop will be deployed in the Tulcea Military Port and will be intended to carry out missions on the Danube, on the connecting channels, in inland waters, in the lagoon area and in the coastal areas. The craft is 12 meters long, 3,8 meters wide and is built on an aluminum alloy body. It can carry a crew of eight and two tons of materials.

The main missions of the ship are support in fluvial actions, rapid intervention with marine infantry subunits, with EOD (explosives disposal) specialists or with military divers, patrol actions in the area of ​​military actions, evacuation of medical emergencies and of support in search and rescue missions executed in the area of ​​responsibility.

The "Mihail Kogălniceanu" River Flotilla, with headquarters in Brăila, has the personnel and capabilities to fulfill its established missions and the commitments assumed by our country in the regional security system.
