Minister of Health: Last Minute Decisions regarding the Pandemic for All Romanians

The Minister of Health Last Minute Decisions Pandemic All Romanians

The Minister of Health talks about the extremely important measures that were taken by the Romanian authorities for millions of Romanians throughout the country during the 5th wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, which led to a 4-fold reduction in the number of deaths compared to the 4th wave of 2021.

The Minister of Health says that in Romania the number of deaths has been reduced more than what was recorded, according to studies, only on the basis of the reduction of virulence between the Delta and Omicron strains, praising his team that made the decisions on the basis of which the lives of Romanians were saved from all over the country.

"I have to make some mentions, and I mention that we managed to manage, and I say satisfactorily, the 5th wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, and I think also the 6th wave, and there are signs that things are moving in a favorable direction. We managed to achieve absolutely all our targets on the PNRR, despite the skepticism of some, we launched the applicant's guides in several fields.

I have a certain satisfaction that in the 5th wave of the pandemic we managed to reduce the number of deaths by 4 times, much more than the difference between the pathogenicity of the Delta strain, which was in autumn - winter, and the pathogenicity of the Omicron strain. My colleagues succeeded, we had a certain way of thinking, we worked together, in a group of professionals, I think that was the big difference compared to the previous periods.

We managed to do this because we moved the weight from hospitals to the ambulatory area. We offered access to outpatient health services, testing, treatment at the family doctor, in the assessment centers, we tested 2 times more in wave 5 than in wave 4. This led to better control of the pandemic, and we had fewer deaths.

The studies showed that the difference in deaths between the Delta and Omicron strains was 2 times, because of the virulence, we managed to reduce the deaths by 4 times. It's clear that lives were saved in Romania, and in addition, I think we succeeded in one more thing.

Together with my colleagues, we offered access to medical services in hospitals, in health facilities, which unfortunately during 2021 did not really receive patients with other pathologies. Everyone is troubled by the high number of deaths in Romania in 2021, 300.000 deaths, an unprecedented number in the post-war history of the country."
