NATO Helps Emergency Services in the Fight Against Vegetation Fires

NATO helps the emergency services in Europe in the fight against the wildfires that have caused so much damage in many European countries, and below you can see how the countries that are now part of the alliance have offered their help.

"Allied air forces support the emergency services in the fight against vegetation fires.

#NATO allies help each other with their specially adapted aircraft, whether it's concerted firefighting or one nation helping to put out fires in another.

The use of a range of helicopters and aircraft of different sizes and types allows crews to operate in remote locations without having to return to a permanent base of operations for water refills.

Climate change has created natural disasters in countries around the world, from floods to catastrophic wildfires. This year, again, many allied countries have been ravaged by wildfires in recent weeks

As affected nations gather all their civilian emergency services to fight wildfires across the globe, the military is making its unique equipment available both on the ground and in the air to support national firefighting efforts.

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency has deployed 40 aircraft as it supports the Hellenic Fire Brigade for the 11th consecutive year. At the request of the Greek authorities, the agency deployed a record number of aircraft to 20 different locations on Greek soil.

The mutual support of European countries in their efforts to fight forest fires also takes place under RescEU, an EU civil protection mechanism."
