Romania has been going through this extremely worrying situation ever since the war in Ukraine started, the 3-month ROBOR index was constantly increasing until recently, when after an announcement by the Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, the upward trend reversed, and the value of the ROBOR index decreased for several days in a row.
Romania registers today, August 12, 2022, a ROBOR index of 7.98%, from 8.13%, which was this month, which of course is good news, the governor of the BNR stated, in the press conference that you can see below , that the value of the ROBOR index has increased too much in the last months in our country.
Since June, Romania also has a special law that allows deferment of installments for loans taken by Romanians, all because of the very high increase in ROBOR, but also other indices based on which interest is paid by people, so the decrease recorded now comes as a extremely good news for many Romanians.
I think Romania is the only country in Europe where economic problems of this kind are registered, but considering what is happening now, it is hard to say exactly when things could return to normal, although many people hope that this will happen as quickly as possible, and the value of the rates should decrease to the value of the beginning of the year, when ROBOR at 3 months was 3.02%.
