Minister of Education: LAST MINUTE Information, New Changes for School Disciplines

Minister of Education LAST MOMENT Information New Changes School Disciplines

The Minister of Education announced for millions of students and parents from all over the country new changes for some of the subjects that are taught in schools in Romania at the moment, and as you can see below, it is about physical, musical and plastic education.

The Minister of Education says that sports, music and drawing will be switched to a very good, good, sufficient and insufficient qualification system after a study that shows that over 96% of students have annual averages between 9 and 10 in schools in Romania.

"Over 96% of the students have annual averages of 9.00, 9.50 and 10.00, and almost 90% have an annual average of 10.00 in the Physical Education discipline. In Music Education and Art Education approx. 93% of students have annual averages of 9.00, 9.50 and 10.00. Out of 192.843 averages analyzed, 162.052 are overall/annual averages of 10.00!

I participated in a constructive debate with representatives of pre-university education unions and physical education teachers, a meeting in which I presented a synthesis made by aggregating data sets from SIIIR (Integrated Information System of Romanian Education). The study was carried out at the national level, on a representative sample (220 schools from all counties; 64.281 students/min 4 schools/county, with a balanced distribution between residential areas: urban – rural).

There are very many schools where there is not even an average different from 10.00 in these subjects (37 schools out of the sample of 220 schools). Basically, the real situation shows us that the averages are distributed on 4 levels, 10.00, 9.50, 9.00 and less than 9.00. Based on this real situation, the proposal is to award qualifications on 4 levels: Very good/Good/Sufficient/Insufficient. For vocational education/classes with a sports profile, the grading system from 1 to ten will be kept, something already specified in the draft law.

We express our belief that this evaluation system, which takes into account the realities of the Romanian education system, will encourage students' participation in these subjects, without feeling the pressure of the grade. In addition, we specify that the number of hours allocated weekly to these disciplines will NOT be reduced, there is the possibility of an increase through the new framework plans that will be applied from September 2023.

Clarifications regarding the provisions in the field of higher medical education, in the context of the new provisions of the Higher Education Law, according to which the organization of training in residency, as a specific form of postgraduate education, is carried out by the Ministry of Education through higher education institutions of medicine and pharmacy accredited and of higher education institutions that have accredited programs in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy in their structure."
