The total value of the investment is 12,5 billion lei. The Craiova – Caransebeș section crosses Dolj, Mehedinți and Caraș-Severin counties and is 226 kilometers long. Of these, 50 km are to be doubled and two tunnels will be built.

The main objective of the works is to rehabilitate the existing railway lines, to allow traffic speeds of 100 – 120 km/h (for freight trains) and 120 – 160 km/h (for passenger trains). Also, the project will generate new jobs, savings on train costs or infrastructure maintenance costs.

Today I had a meeting with HE Mr. Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni, the Ambassador of Italy in Romania. The main topics of discussion were the priorities that the two countries have in the field of energy, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations in order to expand collaboration in the nuclear field.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Dan-Dragoș Drăgan, Secretary of State from the Ministry of Energy, and Mrs. Alice Rubini, Head of the Economic Office, from the Italian Embassy."
