Volodymyr Zelensky talks about the decision taken today in The Hague regarding the MH17 flight that was shot down 8 years ago, and for whose destruction the culprits were finally established, who will be held accountable, based on a decision made by a Dutch court.
"A very important decision was taken today in the Netherlands. There is the first sentence for the criminals who destroyed the Malaysian Boeing in the sky over Donbass in 2014. Three people received life sentences. And the day will surely come when they begin to serve their punishment.
But this decision is not just about three criminals. Russia lied a lot about this disaster, but still the key facts have been established.
Now the perpetrators have been convicted and the basis for convicting the culprits and higher level is given. Those who bear full personal responsibility for the crime of aggression against Ukraine – the original crime that gave birth to all the others committed by racists since 2014. This is something without which it is actually impossible to protect the world from the repetition of such wars. as Russian aggression against our state.
When all the murderers and executioners are convicted, when their commanders and the political "roof" receive fair sentences, when Russia compensates for all the damage caused by Russian aggression, it will be a very solid basis for a lasting peace.
We have all the possibilities to ensure this. Every Russian war crime, every terrorist attack by them will have its legal response. Today's decision in The Hague proves it.
