Announcement of the Minister of Energy Major Energy Measures All Romania

The Minister of Energy has officially announced the major measures that have been taken in the field of energy for millions of Romanians throughout the country, measures that are meant to help people who are currently affected by the increased prices for electricity and natural gas, as along with many Europeans.

The Minister of Energy talks below about the support Romania offers for Nuclearelectrica, but also about a very important agreement signed with Azerbaijan and Georgia to bring much cheaper electricity from the two countries to Romania, and reduce costs for millions of Romanians.

"Together with colleagues from the Government, we adopted today the "Draft Law on the approval of the signing of the Support Agreement between the Romanian State and Societatea Națională Nuclearelectrica SA for the Project Units 3 and 4 CNE Cernavodă". It is a very important law, which I hope will be adopted as quickly as possible by my colleagues in the Parliament, in order to move forward with the project of the new units in Cernavodă. Yes, Romania will become energy independent and, at the same time, we will ensure our energy security and the achievement of decarbonization targets with the help of nuclear energy. Because decarbonization without nuclear energy cannot be done.

A very important step for the energy security of Romania and Europe was made today by signing the Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania regarding the Strategic Partnership in the field of green energy development and transport.

In the presence of the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili signed for the operationalization of the "green corridor" , which proves that through regional cooperation we will succeed in diversifying energy supply sources.

As President Klaus Iohannis mentioned, the Agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation between Romania, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, in a number of important fields: production, transport and trade in clean energy; development of a new transport infrastructure – Black Sea Green Electricity submarine cable; joint projects on the development of green hydrogen and energy efficiency.

At the same time, as Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă stated, Romania is committed to investing in energy production and energy infrastructure, and in cooperation with our partners, we will promote energy security for our states and for the region. And, at the same time, the good news is that Romanians will also benefit from the completion of this important project."
