GENERAL STRIKE in Continuing Education, Announcement of the Teachers' Unions

GENERAL STRIKE Education Continues Announcement of the Teachers' Unions

The general strike in education continues, after the Federation of Free Education Unions and the Federation of Education Unions "SPIRU HARET" announced that they reject the latest offer made by the Romanian Government to end the protest that has been going on for almost a week.

The general strike in education has already forced a rethinking of the way in which the school situation ends for some of the students, but also the way in which the national exams are given, but despite all this, the trade union federations are far from being satisfied with the offers made by the Romanian Government .

The message of colleagues who are on strike is clear: The strike continues!

The Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education "SPIRU HARET", following the consultation of the affiliated trade union organizations, decided not to sign any agreement, even one endorsed by the President of Romania.

The message from colleagues was clear: I have signed agreements before that were not respected. We need raises, not bonuses/vouchers. The agreement must be made only by the political class and, following this agreement, a normative act must be adopted for the immediate increase of salaries.

We note that our requests have remained the same:

  • Salary increase of 25% until the entry into force of the Law on Unitary Wages;
  • Issuance of an emergency ordinance, guaranteeing that, in the new salary law, the salary of the beginning teacher is equal to at least the average gross salary for the economy (the salary of all teaching staff to be realized progressively, in relation to function, education, seniority and teaching degree).

The offer was discussed with the territorial unions, which in turn have
consulted union members. The majority of union members, who are on strike, voted to continue the protest action.
